The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
